On March 20th, the Dawoodi Bohras of Melbourne rolled up their sleeves for another year of the ‘Clean Up Australia’ initiative at Wattle Park in Whitehorse city council. Young and old gathered for a clean up drive titled ‘Step up to Clean up’.

Clean up Australia inspires and empowers communities to clean and conserve the environment. It was started over thirty years ago, in 1990, by Ian Kiernan who had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard and has now become the nation’s largest community-based environmental event. Since its inception, Clean Up Australia has evolved into an organisation that works with communities, government organisations and businesses, to provide practical solutions to help everyone live more sustainably every day.

Australia’s challenges with regards to waste management cannot be addressed in a day, however, every drive is a step in the right direction, ultimately producing  solutions that lead to a circular economy. With this goal in mind, the Dawoodi Bohras of Melbourne stepped up and enthusiastically did their part to keep their local community clean.

The drive was undertaken as part of Project Rise, the Dawoodi Bohra’s global philanthropic arm that deals with a wide spectrum of initiatives and activities in healthcare, nutrition, water & sanitation, environmental responsibility & conservation, and education.
